Holiday Retrospective

March 27, 2008

The 2007 holiday season brought a wealth of memories for those who attended Foundation-sponsored events at Terrace Hill. Always a time of tradition and togetherness, this past November and December filled the grand house with culture and cheer.

Ebenezer & The Spirit of Giving played to delighted audiences in its third season becoming a holiday hallmark of Terrace Hill. The early-November six-night run provided a kickoff for the holiday season. The original Lorenzo Sandoval adaptation of Dickens Christmas classic will be returning in 2008, under the sponsorship of Iowa Health System. Because audience size is intentionally limited, early reservations are recommended by calling 515-280-3450. The 2008 dates are November 17 through November 22.

A new holiday event provided heartwarming entertainment with the premiere of Soup Supper & Story. Following a soup supper in the carriage house, guests moved to the drawing room of the mansion. There Joseph Leonardi, founder and artistic director of Repertory Theater of Iowa, performed a dramatic reading of Truman Capotes A Christmas Memory. Laughter and tears ensued. Audiences requested an encore for the event in 2008. Dates are set for December 12 and 13.

Governor Chet Culver and First Lady Mari Culver welcomed guests on December 31 for a Foundation fundraiserRing in The New! that raised a lot of fun. Guests danced to the music of The Soul Searchers, had their fortunes told by a woman of mystery in the tower room, and toasted the New Year throughout the last hours of 2007.
