THEMA Scholarship Winners

The annual Terrace Hill Endowment for the Musical Arts (THEMA) competition culminated in performances by three finalists playing in front of a live audience at the Iowa Public Television (IPTV) studio in Johnston, Iowa, on February 7.
Kevin Lufkin of West Des Moines was named first-place winner of the Senior Division of the 2009 THEMA. The second-place winner was Sarah Thune of Clive; third place was awarded to Hana Yoon of Ames.
Lt. Governor Patty Judge presented the awards. The Senior Division competition finals will air on IPTV on April 6 at 8:00 p.m. and on April 12 at 6:00 p.m.
The competition is open to all Iowa high school seniors studying music throughout the state. Winners are awarded scholarships to be used in pursuit of college-level music studies in Iowa the following year.
A Junior Division competition for students in grades 9 through 11 was also held, and winners at that level attended a master class given by guest judges Dr. Janice Wenger and Dr. Peter Miyamoto from the University of Missouri/Columbia.
