2008 Terrace Hill Endowment for the Musical Arts Winners

Jessica Nilles of Webster City was named first-place winner of the Senior Division of the 2008 Terrace Hill Endowment for the Musical Arts (THEMA) on Saturday, February 16. The three finalists performed in front of a live audience at the Iowa Public Television (IPTV) studios in Johnston. The second-place winner was Katie Sonnek of Reinbeck; third place was awarded to Timothy LeDuc of Cedar Rapids.
The THEMA Competition is held annually and is open to all high school seniors studying music throughout the state. Winners are awarded scholarships to be used to pursue college-level music studies in Iowa the following year. A Junior Competition for students in 9th through 11th grades was also held, and winners of this younger-level competition attended a master class given by the guest judges.
Judges were Dr. Susanne Skyrm and Arlene Krueger of South Dakota. The competition finals will air on IPTV on April 7 at 8:00 p.m. and April 12 at 4:30 p.m.
