Artist’s View of Terrace HillBy JACQUELINE DEVINE March 27, 2008 Internationally renowned artist Amy Worthen, curator of prints at the Des Moines Art Center, has returned to Terrace Hill. She has been commissioned by the Foundation to create a third copperplate etching depicting an interior scene of Terrace Hill. This commissioned art is being underwritten by Robert E. Josten, art patron and immediate past chair of the Terrace Hill Commission.
Thirty years ago, Worthen created two prints (shown here) for the Society. They were issued as limited editions of 100 each. The new engraving a horizontal view from within the Hubbell library will also be limited to 100 original prints. Each will be signed and numbered by the artist.
Worthen made numerous trips to Terrace Hill during January 2008, sketching details and making visual references for her greatly anticipated piece. She is completing the work from her second home in Venice, Italy, and posts progress of her various works on her Internet blog at http://printperson.livejournal.com/.
Worthens art has been exhibited in major cities across the United States and included in shows in Europe. Her prints are in many public and museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Priced as a fundraiser for the Foundation at below gallery costs, the print will be available for $300 each. In art-world terms, it is a real bargain. Her work in local galleries sells for much more. To date, 15 have already been ordered. Reservations for the print are being taken by the Foundation in the order in which they are received. To place your order for one or more prints of the new limited edition, call 515-280-3450.
