New Commissioners Named2006 Governor Thomas Vilsack has named three new appointees to the Terrace Hill Commission. Each will serve a three-year term. Members are appointed based on their knowledge of business management and experience with historic preservation and renovation.
Randall S. Cram, AIA, is president of Bergland + Cram, an architecture and design firm in Mason City. Cram serves as president for the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake and is past president of the American Institute of Architects.
Cram grew up in Des Moines, where he coincidentally helped measure Terrace Hill to develop restoration plans as an architecture student. He considers the property to be one of the states most valuable. His historic preservation experience includes work on the Stockman House and Park Inn Hotel, both originally designed by famed American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He has also designed additions to several properties in Iowa on the National Register
for Historic Places. Crams appointment to the Commission is
through 2007.
Curt Heidt is vice president and community investment officer for the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines. He is an advisor emeritus of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and currently serves on the Trust’s high-risk revolving loan fund committee. Heidt has also served as vice chair of the advisor’s national executive committee and as an advisor representative on the National Trust’s Trustee budget and finance committee; he has served on the Trust’s community revitalization committee and on its housing task force.
Heidt, who has a bachelor of science degree from Iowa State University, received the 2006 Visionary Partner award from NeighborWorks, Americas North Central Region. He received the 2005 Spirit of Main Street award for work with the Iowa Main Street Program. Heidts appointment is through 2009.
Janalyn White is president of First American Realty in Cedar Rapids. She has managed family-owned commercial real estate located in Cedar Rapids and in Wisconsin for more than 15 years. White has served on many community boards, including the Cedar Rapids Downtown District. She looks forward to being included in the decision-making process at Terrace Hill and the preservation of one of our state’s treasures. Whites appointment is through 2008.
