Maurice Baringer Leaves Society Board

2006

A prominent and long-time advocate for Terrace Hill, Maurice Baringer, is retiring from the Society board of directors, a position he has held since its inception in 1972. Baringer is also a former Terrace Hill Commissioner, who was appointed by Governor Robert Ray in 1975. That same year, he also started the Terrace Hill Foundation. “If it weren’t for Maurice and a group of core volunteers, Terrace Hill as we know it today might not exist,” said Terrace Hill Administrator David Cordes.

Baringer, who farms 300 acres near Woodburn and raises Arabian horses, was elected State Treasurer in 1968, a position he held for 14 years. Prior to that, he was elected to the Legislature and was Speaker of the House in 1968. The staff and volunteers are grateful for his tireless support over the years.
