Foundation board member Shaun Fay, whose home kitchen is a dream space worthy of interior-magazine coverage, responded to the cramped, inadequate and outdated basement kitchen at Terrace Hill with a fun solution: a kitchen shower. The event was held on May 12 at Terrace Hill.

Fay recruited a circle of friends and foodies to turn the need into a night of culinary arts, celebrity chefs, and kitchen secrets. Her first recruit was Teresa Adams-Tomka, co-owner of Kitchen Collage in the East Village. Adams-Tomka, in turn, recruited Chef Ryan Binney from Sweet Binneys and Chef Dominic Iaanerelli from Splash to cook and demonstrate the night of the event. In addition, Terrace Hill Chef Sharon Van Verth and Adams-Tomka and her business partner, Molly Eliason, showcased their expertise.

The celebrated chefs shared the kitchen and their preparation secrets with guests, who learned how to create the selections and later enjoyed the menu items as dinner guests. Before dinner was served, guests mingled and bid on silent auction items to enhance the equipment and environment of Terrace Hills main kitchen.

The long-range plan for the Terrace Hill kitchen includes major renovation. Because of infrastructure challenges, including the necessary reconfiguration of mansion heating and cooling elements that currently intrude on potential expansion space, the capital campaign for the kitchen is a goal for the future. However, design plans have been drawn, and everything that was acquired through the generous donations of guests at Terrace Hill Cooks, was put to work immediately and will be usable in the future kitchen.
