2004 Terrace Hill Piano Scholarships AwardedBy Carla Herling 2004 First Lady Christie Vilsack presented the awards for the 2004 Terrace Hill Endowment for the Musical Arts (THEMA) competition on Saturday, April 3, 2004. The first-place winner of a $3,000 scholarship was Jenny Lee of Cedar Falls, Iowa. The second-place winner of a $1,500 scholarship was Allison Lingren of Pilot Mound, Iowa, and the third-place $1,000 scholarship went to Elizabeth Leir of Marion, Iowa.
Semifinalists included Brian Klinge of Dubuque, David Kordahl of Sioux Center and Christina Petaros of Maquoketa. The THEMA competition is held annually and is open to all Iowa high school seniors studying music. The scholarships are to be used to pursue college-level music studies in Iowa during the upcoming school year.
Nicole Narboni, Assistant Professor of Piano at the School of Music of the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, served as the competitions guest judge. In addition to her professorial duties, Narboni is part of a piano duo, the Clinton/Narboni Duo, which has performed for audiences worldwide. Guest pianist, Jason Danielson, an Iowa native, also performed.
