New Director of Development Named

2002

Alissa McKinney is the new director of development for the Terrace Hill Foundation. McKinney grew up in Story County on a farm in Colo. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Simpson College in 1990. With a background in politics and fundraising, McKinney worked for four years as the assistant director of the SPARK Program, a nonprofit organization in Houston, Texas, and most recently spent a year as the finance director for the Iowans for Vilsack/Pederson campaign.

“My primary focus is starting a successful annual giving campaign,” said McKinney. “While state funding is adequate for routine maintenance of the governor’s residence, private funding continues to be crucial to maintain and further develop Terrace Hill’s role as a world-class museum and heritage tourism destination. I want to ensure that Terrace Hill’s doors are always open to all Iowans,” she added.

National Trust for Historic Preservation, who said, “Since September, people have been asking many tough questions about America’s future.” He is “more convinced that saving America’s diverse historic places has taken on an even greater-than-ever relevance since the catastrophic events.” Preservationists, he believes, play an important role in protecting cherished places and symbols that terrorists realize are the glue of American society.

According to McKinney, Iowa has many treasures and symbols, but one of the most magnificent is Terrace Hill. In the months ahead, McKinney says residents will hear more about the plan to maintain Terrace Hill for generations to follow.

McKinney spends her spare time with her two young daughters, Emma and Isabel: watching movies; cooking; and running.
